Behind the scenes, on the front lines

In this class – Leadership

When leadership comes together, they are like one big happy family.

Leadership is not the typical class at Armijo. To be in the class, students must fill out an application expressing their interest and dedication to the program. This class also takes place during 0 period.

The six Associated Student Body (ASB) officers and the instructor, Mr. Casey Towner, are mostly responsible for the functions of the class. Each officer has his or her own track and events to keep track of. In these tracks, there are Committee Heads that lead as well, relieving some responsibility from the officer.

The day starts with announcements. These could be about anything from a club meeting to a sports game to someone’s birthday. Following this, the class breaks into their tracks. This is where the work gets done. Critical planning for the events at Armijo happens during this time. It is important that everyone is present, focused, and ready to get stuff done.

However, the class is not all work. Sometimes, instead of track time, the whole class plays a game to bond with each other, or they do a Leadership Lesson, led by Mr. Towner or another student. This is important because sometimes the students need time to not worry about an event, but focus on developing as a leader, or just to have some fun.

Being in Leadership is one of the most rewarding things a student can do. Participants get to see how they can change the school environment, firsthand. The individual’s impact can live on long after graduation.

Applications for the 2022-2023 school year are coming out soon. Students who are interested should be sure to submit an application.
