A love of children led Ms. Montemayor to the classroom.

Ms. Kathy Montemayor is a wife, a mother of two, and an English and science teacher. She’s had a lot of experience raising her daughters – Ann, 12, and  Maddie, 10 – but this is her first year as a full-time teacher.

“I was a substitute teacher for two years,” said Ms. Montemayor. And while she hasn’t been a teacher for long, she does have experience with children. “I also place exchange students in people’s homes,” she said. One of Armijo’s own students, Nanouke Bornhak, is here from Germany this semester because of Ms. Montemayor’s passion, and two other students were here from Germany last semester as well with her help.

She loves working with young people, and that’s why Ms. Montemayor became a teacher, but COVID has made her nervous about being within six feet of her students while the pandemic continues.

Ms. Montemayor grew up locally. She graduated from Vacaville High School and earned her degree from San Francisco State University. She would encourage others to pursue this career. “If you wish to give young people a brighter future, and help shape their lives, then teaching is for you,” she said.

Her hobbies include reading, sewing, knitting and gardening. She also enjoys bike riding and hiking, as well as traveling the world.
