Organizations led by women that change the world
There is no doubt that women play an important, essential, and critical role in the development and advancement of our world. For example, many organizations led by women have transformed our planet into a better place. It is important to educate ourselves about these organizations and recognize how much they contribute to society.
One such organization is Solar Sister, a nonprofit organization founded in 2010 by Katherine Lucy. The goal of Solar Sister is to end energy-poverty, while creating clean energy businesses throughout Africa. The organization believes that everyone should have the right to have affordable and clean power. Solar Sister supports local African women to create sustainable businesses that will spread clean energy to their communities and beyond.
This network partners with local women’s organizations and technology providers in order to address the energy crisis through women’s economic empowerment. There are more than 6,700 Solar Sister entrepreneurs working within the organization and together they have reached over 2.9 million people in Africa with clean energy.
The Malala Fund’s Education Champion Network is an organization founded in 2013 by Malala Yousafzai and Zaiuddin Yousafzai, advocating for girls’ education. Their mission is to empower girls to reach their full potential through investment in educational programs and, by partnering with local leaders, the organization provides girls with up to 12 years of free, safe, quality education.
They also advocate for policy changes, in regards to prioritizing education, at local, national, and international levels. The Malala Fund’s motto is “Working for a world where every girl can learn and lead”.
The Black Girls Code is a nonprofit organization founded in 2011 by Kimberly Byrant. They focus on empowering African-American girls ages 7 to 17 entering the digital space by educating them in the technology or STEM fields. They teach valuable programming skills needed, like programming languages such as Scratch or Ruby on Rails, in an attempt to close the gap within the STEM field. The Black Girls Code motto is “Imagine. Build. Create. – Imagine a world where everyone is given the tools to succeed, and then help us build ways for everyone to access information and create a new age of women of color in technology.”
There are many other organizations led by women that advocate for different causes, but in the end, they are to help all people and to improve our world. If you want to make a change in the world, you could start an organization focused on solving a local, national, or global issue, whether that is environmental or something focused on the humanities. Who knows? You might end up having a huge impact in our world, one that can inspire others as well.
