Wood takes the win for Varsity, Royals for JV

Varsity: 1-2 Loss (5-3-0) Junior Varsiy: 5-1 Win (5-1-2)

JV keeps the winning streak alive.

Varsity: Friday, January 28, the Royals were disappointed in their performance against Will C. Wood, in a game filled with lots of fouls and strange calls along with poor play. Unfortunately Armijo did not step up to the plate that night and the Wood team just wanted that win more. They came out strong and ,with a strange foul called against the Royals, they got their first goal off a free kick with 18 minutes left on the clock in the first half.

Wood tried to get another goal on Armijo off a PK in the first half but Senior Keeper Jonathon Harrington denied them that second goal with a great diving save.

Armijo ended first half down one and with a lot to talk about. The Royals came back to second half with some changes to hopefully get the goals needed, but with another card to the Royals’ keeper this time that didn’t happen. Armijo’s Junior Keeper Miguel Salas stepped up to jump in goal, but unfortunately just missed the corner shot that put Wood up 2-0.

The Royals finally started to rally and with some great footwork by Junior Abraham Perez, he was able to get them on the board with less then 10 minutes to go.  Armijo was unable to get the second or third goal so badly needed and ended the game with the 1-2 Loss. The Royals unfortunately were outplayed and, with other circumstances against them, it just didn’t go their way.

On Wednesday, February 2, the Royals face the top team in an away game.

Junior Varsity (JV): Armijo went into the game wanting to win. With a bunch of chances in the first 15 minutes, the momentum was on their side. Edwing Saucedo was able to get a ball in after a solo play on the right wing to make it 1-0. Not much after, Jovani Jimenez was able to slot another one through the keeper to make it 2-0.

Over the half, the Royals knew that score could be bigger in their favor. In the first 10 seconds of the second half, Santiago Alvarez was able to score after a great ball from Dawson Le. The momentum carried and Edwing scored another from a free kick, and Santiago also added another goal with a great team play to make it 5-0.

Wood was able to get one in after a ball was able to get past the defense. The boys carry a three-game win streak into the last two games where they will look to fight for 1st place.
