Royals deliver mixed results against Vacaville

Var: 2-3 Loss (3-1-0) JV: 5-1 Win (2-1-1)

Armijo Royals stay on the ball for soccer.

Varsity: On Friday, January 14, both teams came out strong and looking for a continuation to the winning streak. With some unfortunate calls against Armijo, however, Vacaville was able to get the first goal at the halfway point off a free kick and header to finish.

The battle continued and the Royals were able to secure their own goal with a beautiful cross by senior defender Salvador Rodriguez Villagomez and a flying finish by senior center Julian Jimenez into the net. This tied things up at the last three minutes of the first half and gave Armijo some key points to discuss and that drive to keep pushing for that win.

Unfortunately, going into the second half, the Bulldogs had a great cross of their own that the Armijo defense just couldn’t behind quick enough. That gave them the 2-1 lead. With several more confusing calls against Armijo, the Royals’ defense just couldn’t hold Vacaville’s three key offensive players back and they were able to get a third one in with 17 minutes left in the game.

Armijo didn’t give up and, with a call in their favor off a foul in the box, they were able to get one last goal in by senior captain Andy Rodriguez, bringing the score to 3-2.

This was a hard loss for the boys tonight but hope is not lost. Armijio still has six more games to battle through and another shot to take down the Bulldogs. If the Royals continue to progress and step up to the plate like they did in the last three games and in several parts of this game, things will turn back around. The boys want it and they are all talented enough to make those next wins happen… to get to playoffs again and with a little luck ….even take league still. Coach Flores believes in these boys wholeheartedly and know that they can do this.

Junior Varsity (JV): Armijo started the game moving the ball around and creating chances right away. Eight minutes in, Edwing Pacheco was fouled inside the box and Santiago Alvarez scored the penalty to make it 1-0. Ten minutes later, Alvarez scored another after a great assist from Francisco Orozco.

Vacaville was getting closer to the goal and were able to get one in to make it 2-1. Armijo reacted by pressing back and got another goal in by Jovani Jimenez right before the half, making it 3-1.

Armijo fixed everything in the second half and Jackson Harrinton, along with Jason Kudsk, shut everything down. Armijo got another goal after Javiv Jimenez scored a long range goal that went over the keeper.

Scoring did not stop there as Dawson Le got his goal in to make it 5-1 and securing an important three points.
