Athletes Focus: Duke Delorefice tees up
For junior Duke Delorefice, golf has been a lifetime commitment. As a member of the Armijo men’s golf team, Delorefice has played in the varsity team and has more than eight years of experience.
Delorefice said, “It is a game that is left up to you and you are the only person who decides the outcome.” He aspires to become a better player every time that he steps foot on the course.
Delorefice said, “I look up to Adam Scott, whose swing I look to when I need guidance.” Moreover, the sport has also given Delorefice crucial life skills. “Golf has taught me that the harder you work the better you become and hard work equals success,” Delorefice said, “it’s up to you how you live your life.” When recalling his most memorable match in golf, Delorefice said,
“At Rancho for the last match last season, it was pouring rain and freezing and yet we went on.” Outside of golf, Delorefice enjoys the outdoors and spends his free time snowboarding and hiking in nature. Delorefice has plans to venture into a higher education and business career after high school.
“I hope to go to college after high school and eventually become a successful businessman,” Delorefice said, “I’ve always liked the quote, ‘Sell me this pen.’”
Delorefice’s passion for golf has led him to a mindset of hard work and dedication. It is clear that this same drive will carry him to pursue greater success in his athletics and academics.
