A great start to a great sport

Athlete focus – Solange Lincoln-Berry, Girls’ JV Soccer

Solange loves the sport she chose to pursue.

While many of her teammates practically grew up playing soccer, Solange Lincoln-Berry only entered the sport as a freshman.

“At this point in time I do not participate in any other sports,” she said. And although she is enjoying the game, she’s not sure how far she’ll take the sport. “I’m not 100% sure if I’m going to play soccer in college or not,” she said. “But by the end of this season hopefully I will know.”

As of now, she has little evidence to support that decision, but she did enjoy her first pre-season game. “It was our first win and we were all pumped up!” she said.

Lincoln-Berry keeps herself active on and off the field. She’s currently in Leadership and enjoys painting and drawing. She’s already sketched out a plan for after graduation, too. “My plans when it comes to school are that I want to go to a trade school and take courses for cosmetology. Then, from there, I’ll go to business school and, with those together, hopefully I can start my own business.”

While this is her first year on the team, Lincoln-Berry would encourage others who are just discovering the sport to try out. “Just do it, even if you kind of unsure, because it’s a 50/50 chance that you will end up playing a sport you grow to love,” she said.

One thing that Lincoln-Berry said that she didn’t love is the way things are promoted around campus. She noticed that there was definitely room for improvement. “If thing were advertised better, kids would know about a lot more things and maybe even participate in them,” she said.
