A sweet tale that will warm your heart
Book Review – Sugar by Deirdre Riordan Hall
Mercy Bella Legowski-Gracia, or Sugar, as everyone calls her, is a teen girl that has a lot going on in her life. She is overly stress and the way she deals with that is by eating.
Sugar has a lot of stress coming from her bedridden mother, her abusive brother, her absent father, and the bullies at school. All of this leads her to eat a lot, and because of her weight, she gets even more depressed, but then she meets Evan.
Evan also has family problems that he has to deal with, which makes them best friends. And we can all use a friend that we can connect to, like Evan and Sugar connect to each other.
I liked this book a lot, the way that it is so relatable. So many teen girls don’t feel like they belong in their own skin or would rather look like someone else, especially nowadays where, if you don’t have the perfect body, you are considered ugly. Everyone has challenges, like Sugar’s, where there are things going on at home and people just need a friend to help deal with it.
I would 100% recommend this book to any girl going through these types of challenges or self-doubts, because it is very Inspiring and pushes teens to see the beauty that is within.
