Athlete focus: Passions for life
Leia Castro has been playing soccer for 10 years. Two things she likes most are that sport and photography.
Castro got into soccer on a whim. She just wanted to try out and discovered that she really liked it. She has played for Fairfield-Suisun Club as well as for the Armijo team. Her most memorable game was when she was 13 and she played for the Pythons and scored five goals. She will and is working very hard to keep up with her studies and do the best in soccer and make Armijo proud with her skills.
She also plays tennis outside of school. She has the will and power to learn more and get better in soccer which made her decide to continue playing soccer, even when she goes to college.
She hopes to go to UCLA and make a great career ahead, but not in soccer. She enjoys fashion designing and dreams of traveling around the world.
She would encourage others who are contemplating joining a sport, even if it isn’t soccer. “Make sure to keep focused the whole time and try your best,” she said.
As an only child, her greatest motivation has been her grandparents as they taught her to work hard. She wishes she could see that – a hardworking ethic of respect and politeness – in all the students at Armijo.
