It’s time to let your creativity shine! The University of Iowa is a public university located in Iowa City, Iowa. It was founded in 1847, and it is the oldest university, as well as the second largest one of the state of Iowa, and has one creative program that makes it stand out: the famous Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

 In reality, the University of Iowa offers more than 200 areas of study, in undergraduate majors, minors and certificate programs. Additionally, there are more than 100 graduate, doctoral, and professional programs. The Iowa Writers’ Workshop supports many of the careers and programs focused in creative writing offered at the University of Iowa. It focuses on learning how to think, read, and write in a creative and critical manner, on how literature and language influences individuals and society, in general. In this area, the major literary movements and genres of British, American and global literature are studied, as well as the dimensions of literature and how it’s created and circulated in the world. “The University of Iowa offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English and Creative Writing, as well as a Literary Publishing Track. You’ll also be earning your degree in writing in a UNESCO City of Literature which hosts an annual Book Fest as well as numerous other opportunities to get involved with the flourishing literary community in Iowa City” (cappex.com).

The acceptance rate for the University of Iowa, according to US News.com, is 84%, as they are more selective. Around half of the applicants that applied here had an SAT score between 1110 and 1310, as well as an ACT score between 22 and 29. The applicant’s GPA score is something very important that the university looks at when accepting students, since they are very selective, as well as class rank.  The application fee for the University of Iowa is $40.

The University of Iowa is in a good spot, ranking #83 in National Universities for the 2022 edition of Best Colleges. In-state tuition and fees are around $9,606, and out-of-state tuition and fees are more expensive, with $31,569. Financial aid is available for students, and can be in student grants, loans, and scholarships. Additionally, you can also fill out the FAFSA form.

Some of the most notable alumni from the University of Iowa includes actor Ashton Kutcher, actor and filmmaker Gene Wilder, writer Flannery O’Connor, and playwright Tennessee Williams.
