Royals lose in a tough game

Varsity 28-20; JV 60-0

Armijo continued to build momentum toward success on the football field after a hard fought 28-20 loss on Friday night, October 1, against Rodriguez in their homecoming game and the opening week of the league season.

Despite the Mustangs recovering the opening onside kick, the Royals gained possession and scored on our third play, with Eddie Concepcion connecting with Kaiba Washington for a 63-yard touchdown. The Royals would maintain this lead until the last two minutes of the game.

Offensive highlights included another long TD pass between Concepcion and Washington, this one a tipped ball for 46 yards. Concepcion also punched in a score on a 1-yard run following a 29-yard pass between himself and Cesar Torres.

Defensively, Ziair McElvaine (10 tackles) forced and recovered a fumble to begin the second half;  Dameion Regalado, who had been setting records on offense, caught an interception; Jericho Johnson forced a fumble that was recovered by Aaron Castro (six tackles); and Cesar Torres also nabbed an interception. Isiah Medina led the defense with 11 tackles as well.

In the JV game, Rodriguez took an early lead and continued to execute offensively, eventually defeating Armijo 60-0.

On Friday, October 8, Armijo has a home game against the four-time defending league champs, Vacaville. They are expected to bring a large crowd with them, and the Royals would love to combat that with an impressive crowd of their own. Armijo will keep putting in effort on and off the field to improve and make the community proud.
