Rhema shares court with her sister
Athlete Focus – Rhema Johnson, volleyball
Freshman Rhema Johnson started playing volleyball during quarantine in 2020. “I wanted to play because I wanted to try something new and be on the same team as my sister,” she said. Her sister, Wisdom, who is a sophomore, also plays on Armijo’s Junior Varsity (JV) team.
Johnson plans on playing other sports this year as well. “I am very passionate about playing volleyball in college as a D1 athlete,” she said “Quarantine has given me more time to focus, practice, and take time out of my day to spend on volleyball.”
On the other hand, COVID and the resulting Distance Learning has made math a lot harder for her.
“My most memorable volleyball moment was when I had an awesome play and my whole team hyped me up,” said Johnson. She cheers people on just as hard as she plays and is always pushing for positive team dynamics.
In addition to playing volleyball, Johnson sings and makes art. She also volunteers at other schools selling concessions. She has a total of three older siblings and shares the campus with Wisdom as well as her brother Jericho, who is also a sophomore. Her older brother Donald graduated last semester. She sees her siblings as her role models.
