Let your imagination take flight
International Fairy Day – June 24
On June 24, fantasy, creativity, and a little fairy dust join together to celebrate International Fairy Day.
This is a day for young and elderly fairy believers to enjoy the stories, magic, and history of the Fair Folk. There are many creatures related to fairies: gnomes, sprites, and magical winged creatures that may be found in Celtic myth, and this is only a small part of the world.
Fairies are found in stories around the world, including “Irish legend, this keening Bean Sidhe predicted death.” (What National Day) There are several versions of her story across Ireland and Scotland. Her appearance was often eerie and gruesome, a ghost story for soldiers and childbearing women” says What National Day.
Celebrating International Fairy Day is as easy as it is to get up and read a book and learn about the various types of fairies. Why not share Peter Pan or Pinocchio with a younger sibling to get your fairy fix? Watch a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream live or in one of the many movie versions throughout the summer. Make a fairy garden and keep an eye out for evidence of fairy life. To share on social media, use the hashtag #InternationalFairyDay.
