Praise for 2pac’s last studio album
CD Review – Shakur’s R U Still Down?
The last album by Tupac Shakur, R U Still Down?, was more a collection of his work than a planned album, It was released on November 25, 1997 with a total of 26 songs, put together after his untimely death.
In every song on the album, the energy is evident as he raps non-stop from verse to hook to verse to hook while bringing you through the lyrics and melodic beats. It is obvious that he was in the zone and really comfortable in the studio during these sessions. His unique spirit while making most of these provides a cohesive force that makes it all flow and fit together well.
My highlight songs on the albums were Open Fire, Nothing to Lose, F*** All Y’All, and Do for Love. This album illustrates the emotional part of Tupac’s lyrics clearer than any of his others. with lyrics like “I never did cry, and even though I had pain in my heart I was hopeless from the start…keep your head up and make your mind strong it’s a struggle every day, but you gotta hold on” from Hold on Be Strong
I personally don’t think most of these songs live up to the hits he put out while he was still alive, and you can tell why most were outtakes and not on the original albums. They’re still amazing tracks by one of the most iconic rappers of all time.
His discography consists of eleven albums and over 153 songs in his iconic five year career.
