When you know, you can grow.

Autistic Pride Day is acknowledged on June 18. “Autistic pride recognizes the importance of pride for autistic people and its role in bringing about positive changes in the broader society” (facebook)  Some of the most famous people who have been diagnosed with autism include singer Susan Boyle, movie director Tim Burton and co-founder of the Microsoft Corporation Bill Gates (Applied Behavior Analysis Programs)

On June 18, to celebrate this day, people wear rainbow infinity pins for Autism Awareness. Autism is a spectrum disorder and everyone who has this disorder experiences it differently, with their own strengths and challenges. It’s said that around more than 25 million people are affected by autism (Autism Speaks.org).

“Aspies for Freedom founded Autistic Pride Day in 2005 by Aspies for Freedom to raise public awareness and celebrate the similarities and differences of people with autism” (National Day Calendar).

While COVID has limited the events sponsored for Autistic Pride Day, it is still possible to donate and support research on autism. Donations are still being accepted at Autism Speaks.org.
