National Go Fishing Day arrives Friday, June 18, provides an opportunity “for veteran anglers and newcomers alike to get outside, renew, recharge and soak up the California outdoors” (cdfgnews) .

A fishing license in California can cost nearly $150 for the year, and anyone fishing needs to have a license, but one and two-day passes are available starting at about $17 (nrm.dfg.ca.gov).

“Californians have discovered that fishing can provide a safe and healthy physical distancing activity and offers physical and mental relief in stressful times. Fishing can supplement a family’s diet with heart-healthy,” the CDFG news website says. “National Go Fishing Day arrives at California’s fishing seasons are in full swing statewide following some COVID-19 related delays to the start of ocean salmon seasons and the general trout opener.”

So bait your hook and check your license. National Go Fishing Day can be the first of many relaxing days by the water.
