Varsity strikes hard; JV undefeated
Var 4-2 Win (1-2-2) Jv 4-0 Win (5-0-0)
Varsity: Armijo came out strong on May 12, but got a foul called in the box, which gave Fairfield the in they needed for their first goal off a Pk. The Royals came back and held their own and junior Emilliano Hurtado was able to get one in the back of the net. They were holding strong on both sides, but a couple bad touches in front of the goal lead to another goal for Fairfield in the last 30 seconds of the first half.
At half, the Royals came together and talked through where they were struggling and what needed to be done to counteract the play to get that win. Junior Andy Rodriguez Figueroa was able to find the net first and tie things up at about 20 minutes in. Next junior Cesar Molina was able to work through Fairfield’s defense to find his own goal about eight minutes later. Finally, to finish things off, sophomore Abraham Perez was able to find that net after moving around that field all night supporting his teammates.
The Varsity boys were still a little disappointed with their mistakes early on but they were able to talk things out again and come back stronger and with the quick play and movement that we are known for.
Junior Varsity (JV): Another strong show from JV on May 12, with their fifth consecutive win. Fairfield put up a tough fight and never gave up the entire game, but Armijo was able to get those finishes on net. First goal was from a strong play from the corner by freshman Edwing Saucedo Pacheco about 15 minutes into the game. Fairfield and Armijo continued to battle, holding the score at 1-0 for the first half.
Coach Alonso had a good talk with the boys and they came back ready to get more goals. Sophomore Esteban Carcamo was able to find two goals consecutively in the net at the 22 mark and then again five minutes later. The last goal of the night was by junior Emmanual Padilla Solis in the last four minutes.
Coach Flores is proud of both teams with not only two wins but strong play all around. Varsity found their rhythm and showed what the program is really about with quick play, fast movement and multiple shots on goal. JV has been continuing to dominate all season which is a great sign for the continuation and future of our program here at Armijo Soccer.
