Different people meet different needs in foster care.

The first Tuesday in May is National Foster Care Day, a focused day to celebrate, support and encourage children who have, through no fault of their own, had their family situation severely disrupted. Some foster children have parents who are unfit or unable to care for them, while others are orphaned with no recognizable family connections available. That is why National Foster Care Day has been observed in May since 2017, thanks to Ticket to Dream Foundation and Project Blue (National Day Calendar) .

It can be incredibly overwhelming to address these situations, and one day of the year can only touch the surface. Fortunately, since President Regan’s declaration in 1988, National Foster Care Month is the entire month of May (National Day Calendar) .

National Foster Care Month is about honoring “the foster parents, families, and those who support children throughout their journey to find a permanent home” (mopta.org).

While this month honors the foster children themselves, it also celebrates the workers who provide for them, giving them a stable home and making them feel welcomed and loved.

If you’ve been blessed with a strong family connection, you can help those who rely on organizations like those that created this observance by donating material goods or money to places like Koinonia Family Services  at 2500 N. Texas Street #F in Fairfield or Alternative Family Services at 160 Glen Cove Marina Rd #102 in Vallejo.
