Am I stepping into the Twilight Zone?
National Twilight Zone Day – May 11
The Twilight Zone premiered on October 1, 1959 and has made people ponder reality for over 60 years.
May 11, National Twilight Zone Day “features mysterious twists and turns highlighted with eerie background music and unexplainable occurrences” (National Day Calendar).
The original series featured Rod Serling, who was the creator and narrator of most of those episodes. He personally wrote 92 of the 156 episodes originally recorded (Twilight Zone Fandom). Some of those episodes starred people like William Shatner, Cloris Leachman, Robert Redford and Robert Duvall (Mentalfloss.com). “Each episode presented unique stories that led the viewer on a journey into an unknown situation,” the National Day Calendar shared
In 1983, a movie version of The Twilight Zone was released, despite the fact that three people were killed in a tragic accident during the filming (history.com).
The series has been reintroduced to new audiences two separate times, once in 2002 and, more recently in 2019. While the third season of the most recent reboot has not been cancelled, it has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
On May 11, why not sit down and watch a marathon of your favorite version of the series or the movie. After all, wouldn’t it be wrong to experience National Twilight Zone Day without hearing the traditional introduction.
“”You are about to enter another dimension. A dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land of imagination. Next stop—The Twilight Zone.”
