Sibling bonds are priceless
National Siblings Day – April 10
If you have brothers and sisters, National Siblings Day is a holiday is for you!
On April 10, we celebrate the experience of having, and being, siblings. National Siblings Day is a holiday that has historically been celebrated in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. A similar holiday, Brothers and Sisters Day, is celebrated in Europe on May 31. (National Today)
More than 90% of Americans have siblings and this National Day was designed to help commemorate the connection that occurs between children who share parents, whether naturally, in step-family situations or just because they are being raised in the same household like siblings.
Claudia Evart set up a U.S. holiday in 1995 after losing her own brother and sister at a very young age. She knew the significant role that siblings play in our lives, so she created a holiday to celebrate in memory of her brothers and sisters.
You can celebrate your siblings by hanging out with them, doing activities, and more. Perhaps you want to post a picture of you together on social media, or write them a note that highlights what you like about them. What creative way can you express your gratitude for your sibling(s)?
The event has been recognized remembered by three U.S. presidents: Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barak Obama.
“The Siblings Day Foundation, sponsors of this day, won non-profit status in 1999. They are working on the establishment of a United Nations resolution for an International Siblings Day,” according to National Today. Then the world can celebrate the special bond between siblings together.
