Staying connected with others
During this time of social distancing, keeping in contact with family and friends can be challenging. Even though normal face-to-face conversations are rare, there are still ways to stay connected.
More than ever people have been relying on social media and facetime applications to stay in contact with family and friends. Sharing pictures and seeing a glimpse of each other’s lives can be reassuring and fun. Facetime has had multiple purposes during this time, but simply ringing someone up to have a conversation is an efficient way to communicate from a distance, too. Popular facetime applications include Google Duo, Skype, and Zoom. During these calls, you have the opportunity to see loved ones live from wherever you are. Get creative with these chat sessions and tackle a recipe together, a craft, or even watch a movie.
Your family movie nights might feel a little different without everyone there, but it’s still possible to connect over your favorite films. For example, some streaming services like Disney Plus are offering alternative ways to watch movies with your friends and family called Group Watch. Group Watch allows you to send a Disney Plus movie link to anyone with a subscription connecting your streaming devices to watch the movie together. This is definitely a creative spin on the classic movie watch party. It could even be used as a sort of date night.
You can even experience a virtual event with your family and friends. The Armijo Signal is constantly updating to provide you with current and exciting virtual experiences. All you need to do is join on your device and invite others to join as well. Many organizations have been reaching out via zoom and social media and giving baking demonstrations, craft DIYS, and informational discussions. There are events for
everyone, so don’t miss out on a chance to do something new while at home practicing social distancing.
Keeping in touch and socializing virtually can benefit yourself and your friends as it gives you a piece of familiarity. You don’t have to be alone during this time of social distancing. Take advantage of the resources you have at your fingertips, digital or not.
For example, you could send letters to loved ones. It's a simple reminder that you’re thinking of someone in a traditional and meaningful way. These alternative ways to connect and contact people are just a few examples of how to make the most of your quarantine experience.
