Parents reconsider standard answer
Yes Day – Netflix original review
Yes Day is one of Netflix’s newest original movies, this film stars award-winning actresses Jennifer Garner and Jenna Ortega. It was available for streaming on March 12.
The film starts with a couple traveling the world and getting married, saying, “Yes” to everything. It transitions into them having children and becoming parents, essentially having to now say, “No” to everything. The parents are called to a meeting with the children’s teachers, who say the kids have been saying in their schoolwork that their mom is crazy and too hard on them. After the parents discuss what to do, Coach Deacon eavesdrops and suggests they have a “Yes Day” to motivate their kids.
Some familiar faces in this film include Edgar Ramírez as Carlos Torres, and Nat Faxon as Coach Deacon. Yes Day also stars up-and-coming actors like Julian Lerner as Nando, and Everly Carganilla as Ellie Torres.
I loved the diversity and modernity in this film. The director Miguel Arteta is known for his work in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (2014), and Like a Boss (2020).
I believe the theme of Yes Day is that it’s okay to have a day dedicated to fun if you are doing what you need to do all the other days. There are many quote able moment in this film my favorite include:
“Although having kids is the best thing that ever happened to us, no became the new yes.” -Allison
“I give my kids yes days. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s a real game-changer.” – Coach Deacon
I would definitely recommend this to a friend and watch it with my own family as well!
