Wanting to read something new? You should check out Close to Famous by Joan Bauer.

The novel is about a 12-year old girl named Foster McFee who dreams of having her own cooking show like her idol, Sonny Kroll. Foster’s vision gets interrupted when they race out of town to get away from Huck, her mom’s abusive ex-boyfriend who also happened to be an Elvis impersonator. She and her mom end up in a small town called Culpepper where nothing interesting seems to happen.

As Foster knows more about the townspeople, she discovers that she’s not the only one who wants to be famous. No matter the situation, Foster is going keep on baking!

I would rate this book a 3.5/5 because it’s very slow paced and it’s confusing to read at times. Although it is very inspiring and it seems to be written for a younger audience (maybe something that can be read by your younger siblings). I do recommend that you also read it because it is an enjoyable story and you could always learn something new.

“I’ll tell you something about tough times. They just about kill you, but if you decide to keep working at them, you’ll find your way through” – Joan Bauer
