Age and beauty combine for style
Fashion review – Vintage looks
Vintage refers to items that hold recognizable value and importance, but the term also refers to a modernized recreation of earlier styles, often in the 70’s or 80’s. Vintage looks can be demonstrated in interior design, clothing or decor. It’s a nice aesthetic, and it doesn’t necessarily mean old.
While we are focused on vintage to describe clothing, it can also refer to classic decor, cars, furniture, photography and more. The reference to vintage can be seen in bringing back looks that gained their popularity originally in movies and designs from earlier eras.
Vintage clothing styles can range from flapper dresses from the 1920s, to a petticoat from the 1950s, to a blazer with padded shoulders from the 1980s.
Choosing to dress in vintage styles is a way to show your uniqueness and individuality. Buying off the rack in a department store is trendy, but picking up something classic or old-fashioned at a thrift store, in a parent’s closet or through an on-line website can provide a style that is distinctly yours, or a modernized version of an era gone by.
Vintage clothing doesn’t have to be specific for girls and boys. It’s just the aesthetic which gives it the vintage look. Bishop sleeves, leather belts, flannels, jeans, platforms, or simple flat shoes, are all considered elements of vintage style.
I’d wear vintage clothing if I could. It’s a nice vibe, something older and nostalgic, but it still can be new. It’s the look and how you put it together.
