CD Review – Spaceships
Roosevelt is an up-and-coming, underground artist and they released an album called Spaceships in 2018.
My initial thoughts on the album is that it wasn’t good, but they definitely weren’t bad either. My expectations on the piece were high based on the title and the cover, but once it was time to sit down and actually listen to the piece, those expectations suddenly caught a case of the blues and dropped tremendously.
One reason is that the whole album is instrumentals that I presume he produced himself. But it was the lack of lyrics and the tedious sounds that threw me off. Originally I thought it was only going to be the first song, but I progressively went down the tracks the monotonous tone continued. I do credit him for the exploitation of a piano throughout the album and how he was able to create what I like to call a sound wave. His music starts off high and exciting but then drops low and slow, creating a various vibe throughout it all.
Overall I wouldn’t consider the album a bomb. Is there room for improvement? Yes, but that’s the constructive criticism any and every artist should be prepared for, especially in the music industry, one the toughest industries to secure a career and make a living in.
