Teacher Feature: Mr Manning
For the last ten years, Mr. Maurice Manning has been teaching Spanish. The last nine of those years have been at Armijo. “This year I teach Spanish III and Spanish IV,” he said.
Mr. Manning finds it very rewarding, being a teacher at Armijo. He said that his students are the best, referring to them as hard-working individuals. In his eyes, the students that take his Spanish classes are always striving to do well, and are very active in making sure that there is a positive school culture.
While he admires his students, he realizes that teaching, especially during a pandemic, can be challenging. He said, “I am constantly trying to create the best lessons and activities that will help my students succeed in my class.”
He went to Sac State before going into his teaching career, but teaching wasn’t his first goal. “I wanted to be a police officer and eventually a Homicide Investigator,” he said. “But I decided to go into education” and the rest is history.
It’s not all about Google Classroom and lesson plans, though, even these days. Mr. Manning has outside interests, too. “I enjoy exercising, playing sports, and playing my PlayStation 4, soon to be ps5,” he said.
