World Cancer Day – February 4

Together we can change the world of cancer.

Since 2000, World Cancer Day has occurred annually on February 4.

This day started as a positive movement for everyone to unite and help fight cancer. The intentions set this day are to help spread awareness, introduce ways to prevent this disease, identify ways to detect any symptoms, and acknowledge any treatments needed.

In previous years, there have been events organized including fundraising runs, parties and more. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, many events for this year will be postponed or even cancelled, but there are still ways to participate.

Lighting up a specific landmark in the community with the World Cancer Day colors (blue and orange), posting a personal message, creating a blog/post, making a donation to any organization, or posting any material so it is more accessible for others to read are COVID safe ways to promote World Cancer Day (https://rb.gy/s1ucv0).

The theme for this year’s World Cancer Day events is “I Am and I Will.” This represents the act of coming together as a community. If we come together, we can help reduce the number of premature deaths from cancer and related diseases by a third by 2030 (https://rb.gy/s1ucv0).

As of 2020, an estimate of  1.8 million new cases came up so this day is so important to help spread this information and help out cancer research to find a cure (https://rb.gy/hkrrna).

Some organizations that accept donations include Prevent Cancer Foundation (https://www.preventcancer.org/), Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (https://ocrahope.org/), Melanoma Research Alliance (https://www.curemelanoma.org/), and others. Whether you are donating or spreading awareness, coming together and fighting cancer will impact so many lives and it is something you can do safely.
