Whatever the reason, they deserve remembrance
National Missing Persons Day – February 3
You’d be surprised if you knew how many people are missing in the world. Over 10,000 people are missing. 600,000 people go missing at the end of every year. According to https://rb.gy/hrwhcz.
The reasons for going missing are many and varied. They can include mental illness, miscommunication, misadventure, domestic violence, and being a victim of crime, including kidnapping.
While there are inherent risks attached to any missing person, specific population groups are recognized as particularly vulnerable.
When people go missing, the first 48 hours are crucial. The majority of missing persons are identified and found during those hours, but several are not. In cases that last after 72 hours, the risks of severe harm or death increase. It is most likely for a women and children to be reported missing. In 2016, Pearl Pinson was reported missing in Vallejo and she has never been found. In January this year, the Zachery Lukas Rose’s remains were found in Fairfield after nearly two.
It’s because of these and other victims and their experiences that National Missing Persons Day is recognized on February 3. It’s dedicated to bring awareness to the people who have gone missing. It is important that they are not forgotten and that efforts continue to rescue them from their traumatic experiences or to help family members and friends have closure.
