Awareness is the key to this time of observation
Human Rights Day – December 10; Human Rights Month – December
December 10 is the official day to celebrate human rights.
Human Rights Day is part of Human Rights Month, which has also been designated as Universal Human Rights Month and International Human Rights Month. It is a day celebrated around the world.
The date was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in based on “the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR),” according to www.un.org. On this day we recall and recognize that Human Rights are universal and nobody should ever feel otherwise. It’s also important that each person know their rights while walking on this earth.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes civil and political rights, as well as the right to life, liberty, free speech and privacy. Celebrating this day, and this month, aims to recognize the rights of every person. The charter addresses four key areas: personal rights of freedom and equality; relationship rights, including nationality; and spiritual and political rights. Work, wages, education, and social security are also covered in social rights.
This year’s theme, Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights, shows is a perfect focus for a pandemic observation. So how can we honor this day?
Around the world, many suffer from mistreatment and this day helps us spread awareness so that others know that we stand and defend anybody who is having his or her rights sabotaged. We must educate one another because December 10 is more than just a day. All people should know their basic rights.
