Getting trendy for the holidays

Add a little flair to your holiday fashions.

Despite the pandemic, people still seem to believe that the holidays are the best time of the year. Even in their altered form, they can be a fun time to celebrate with friends and family, in person or virtually.

If you are going to be seen, whether on Zoom, at home or out on the town, you should consider a fashion statement that will give you a positive memory of this peculiar year.

First off, you should start with the main idea. What is your holiday theme? I would go for a winter theme which consists of colors like blue, white, and silver, although this theme should be for a more mature and formal audience.

If children are involved, you might consider more traditional colors, such as red and green. You might not be going to a big blow out party this year, but you can still stun your friends on a video chat by decking your wardrobe with red, white, and black. It all starts with the tone of your audience so that the outfit can match the tone of the party.

Your fashion accents do not have to be extravagant. It all depends on the holiday you are celebrating. For example, American tradition is to put up a Christmas tree for the holiday, so maybe a sweater with a bold Christmas tree on front or a pair of earrings shaped like ornaments. Even a necklace that sparkles like a string of Christmas lights can really make an outfit pop.

Hanukkah is a Jewish tradition, which might show off in fashion with a warm turtleneck decorated in a traditional menorah, a candleholder with nine little pipes that hold candles in them. Pair that with a pair of jeans and Uggs boots and you’re good to go, or to stay.

Do you want to draw attention to Kwanzaa, an African-American tradition? Focus on the colors of that holiday’s seven candles: black, red and green. Warm leggings with an oversized tunic in these colors is a perfect way to celebrate the season.

While Stay-at-Home orders seem to be the norm, it’s still possible to have small gatherings, meet for a romantic date, or just look snazzy on Zoom for a New Year’s party. I would suggest colors like black, violet, green, and dark blue. Add lots of sparkle and start 2021 with a positive outlook and a positive outfit.

If you are shopping online on websites such as Amazon, Etsy, or Wayfair for your holiday fashions, you don’t have much time, but there are still styles available at TJ Maxx, Kohl’s or Walmart. Stay safe, no matter where you choose to show off your holiday style and take lots of pictures to share on social media.
