They serve the country, now we can serve them
Veterans and Military Families Month – November
November is the month that we celebrate Veterans’ Day, so it makes sense that it is also the time that we celebrate military families.
Veterans and Military Families Month honors those people who protect our country and those who love them. When someone is in the military, there’s no telling if they will come back from their deployment, but this month gives family a special opportunity to honor their personal soldiers, whether they are serving in active duty, retired or in the Reserves.
Although there are challenges to being part of a military family, there are also benefits. Families have the opportunity to live on base, whether the military member is deployed or living with them. A military base, like Travis Air Force Base, is like a little town, with shops, restaurants and a grocery store. Travis even has a dog park and a gym.
Some rules that are enforced off-base are not enforced on base, because the base is different from the host city. Pricing for some products and services is different and protection from outsiders is provided by the metered gates. With all the military families who live there, emotional support can be easily developed for when the soldiers are far away and the families need to be close to someone.
Whether or not you have a military member in your family, show the military honor during Veterans and Military Families Month and let it continue through the other eleven months of the year.
