National Doughnut Day – November 5
People around the world enjoy doughnuts in all shapes and forms, sometimes with coffee for breakfast, or as a dessert. Doughnuts are celebrated in many different ways, and November 5 is a day to unite in that celebration. Enjoy a French Crueler or a maple bar, or invest in a whole dozen of different flavors.
A doughnut does not have to be the generic circular treat that most of us consider. They have evolved into in different shapes and flavors in different parts of the world. Some take the path of fillings, such as custard of jam, while some focus on different shapes such as donut holes or eclairs. Some are even dipped in honey or filled with preserves. People around the world have different definitions of a doughnut, which gives us even more ways to celebrate it.
Doughnuts started as a round sweet dough with a hole in the middle, presumed to be brought over to America by Dutch settlers migrating to New York. The concept of the doughnut caught on fast, some trying to achieve new things, inspiring many of the toppings and decorations we have for doughnuts today.
With the widespread success of doughnuts, it is not hard to find them nowadays. Many local bakeries sell doughnuts by the dozen, and even if you can’t find any yourselves you can really get into the spirit by making your own doughnuts. Without doughnuts, the tradition of coffee in the morning might not be as exciting, and with fall in full swing, various flavors have arisen. While doughnuts may not be the healthiest breakfast or snack, it is good to treat yourself every so often. What would be a better day than National Doughnut Day?
