National Make a Difference Day – October 24
National Make a Difference Day lands on every fourth Saturday of October, so this year it will land on October 24.
This holiday was founded in 1992 by USA Weekend, the second largest national newspaper in that time. They created this special day because they thought it would be a great idea for their readers to do something good for their communities or for people in need. This day was made to give back to our communities and to aid the people that are in need.
This unique day was also made to commemorate the amazing organizations and volunteers who don’t think twice about giving back. Over the course of these years the holiday has had many new ways to expand, being shared on local news stations, talk shows, and through social media with hashtags.
Anyone can celebrate and participate in Make a Difference Day: volunteering to clean parks, building community playgrounds, donating to organizations, or even doing something as simple as giving someone a genuine compliment. No matter how big or small the difference is, it’s important.
This year will mark the 28th anniversary of National Make a Difference Day so make sure to mark your calendar and participate to make a difference.
