What are you doing for your dog today?
National Make a Dog’s Day – October 22
They are considered Man’s Best Friend and there are a lot of days devoted to them, but October 22 is one that puts the onus on the owners: National Make a Dog’s Day.
On this day, people are encouraged to give their dogs the best day of their lives. For dog owners, that might be treating them with goodies, trips and special food. Others might consider going to the shelter and getting a dog of their own.
With the help of American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Subaru, this day was first celebrated in 2015 to raise awareness of the dogs at animal shelters, both mixed breeds and purebreds. The creators of National Make a Dog’s Day designed the day to help the public to recognize the number of dogs that need attention and acknowledge family dogs and dogs that work each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.
“Make A Dog’s Day began as a way for Subaru to say thank you to the pets who support us, love us and make our world a better place,” said Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President, Marketing of Subaru of America, Inc. “Year after year, we’ve been proud to help raise awareness for pet adoption by showing the world how they can make a dog’s day and feel great doing it,” according to (National Day Calendar).
“Since its launch, #MakeADogsDay has reached 68 million people and helped find homes for over one million dogs,” NationalDayCalendar goes on to say. If you are already a dog owner, some of the things you can do on National Make a Dog’s Day is take your dog out for a Puppuccino, bring home a new toy, or spoil your dog with attention and let your dog take you for a walk. Dogs enjoy National Make a Dog’s Day because who doesn’t like all the attention or a day about themselves?
