A quiet run with a friend may be the best way to celebrate.

National Women’s Health & Fitness Day, which will be celebrated on September 30, “is the nation’s largest annual health promotion event for women of all ages,” according to www.fitnessday.com. It helps teach women to make healthy choices and pave the way for a healthier future.

This celebration tries to promote both health awareness and physical activity for women, as “part of a new National Women’s Health & Fitness Week, to be held annually the last week in September,” according to the website.

Thousands of women around the country will be invited to exercise at various events, but due to COVID-19, those events will be restricted by current guidelines. Because of those guidelines, local women are encouraged to spend time walking, running or exercising in new locations. Using this day to increase awareness, through health screenings or online health workshops can also benefit women young and old.

This day is a product of Health Information Resource Center (HIRC), which has organized other special days and promoted the success of their participants through special awards.
