Greenpeace Day – September 15

Supporting the earth is the focus of this day.

In 2011, Greenpeace Day, which is recognized on September 15, was proclaimed by the then-mayor of Vancouver Gregor Robertson. This day honors the peaceful protesting done to improve air and water quality and to reduce the use of plastics and fossil fuels.

Greenpeace is a non-violent organization that was founded in 1971 by a small team of activists who all had a goal to fight against big polluters. The current president of the organization, Patrick Albert Moore, continues to maintain this goal, doing his best to make sure that the earth is always able to nurture life and provide biodiversity, while also promoting world peace along the way.

Greenpeace Day can be celebrated by having people educate themselves and the people around them about the current state of our environment. It is important because the earth is our one and only home, we cannot destroy our surroundings and expect our health to not be destroyed as well.

Natural disasters threaten the earth, but manmade disasters contribute to its destruction and Greenpeace tries to minimize those disasters.

There are many ways you can help the Greenpeace organization and Greenpeace Day is the perfect time to consider the options. Individuals can volunteer with the local office of Greenpeace USA. One of the two main offices in the United States is as close as San Francisco at can be reached at (415) 255-9221. Even more local volunteer and donation opportunities can be found at https://www.greenpeace.org/usa/volunteer-with-greenpeace/. The earth needs our help, and Greenpeace Day gives us a chance to offer it.
