One university drives the impression of this day.

September 15 is Tackle Kids’ Cancer Day. “The day supports innovative research and patient care programs at the Children’s Cancer Institute (CCI) at Hackensack University Medical Center” (HUMC) in New Jersey. National Day Calendar

This day was formed back in 2015 when the university wanted to raise more awareness about pediatric cancer. Since then it has raised $4.5 million from seven thousand donors. The money raised goes towards HUMC’s CCI to conduct pediatric cancer research.

Cancer.org identifies Leukemia, brain and spinal cord tumors, neuroblastoma and bone cancer as some of the most common cancers among children.

According the HUMC’s 2015 annual report, “the key areas of funding go towards pediatric neuro-oncology, developmental therapeutics, cancer genetics, transplant clinical trials, and the Cure and Beyond program.”

Tackle Kids Cancer Day has been working with more than 100 active oncology and transplant clinical trials. “Diseases that were once considered incurable now boast an overall survival rate of 80%, with several tumors having cure rates in the high 90% range,” the report goes on to say.

Making people aware is one way to honor this important day, and using the hashtag #TackleKidsCancerDay on social media is one way to raise awareness to the cause. Older students may consider donating a portion of their income or volunteering their time to further assist the research and moving toward finding cures for some of the most innocent victims of cancer.
