Although closed, Theater is singing on stream
“We are pretty devastated about losing the show,” said theatre teacher Ms. Sheena Beeson after the Shelter-at-Home order caused a cancellation of the Spring musical Curtains, originally scheduled to be performed at Armijo in April. “Over half of the cast and crew are seniors. The [script] company has been understanding and we will get the royalty money refunded, but not the money we paid for materials or for our contracted music director.”
While it was devastating to have to cancel the performance, the drama department did not plan to leave the Armijo audience without a show. “We are currently working on producing a video of the cast singing one of the songs from Curtains as a tribute to the show that never was,” said Ms. Beeson. The student actors had begun “video conference rehearsals for a Shelter-in-Place (SIP) Showcase that will [stream] on Twitch. “We have been enjoying rehearsing and getting back into our creative selves,” Ms. Beeson said.
The event, which is currently scheduled for May 30, will be free to watch and the link will be sent to those who wish to attend. Potentially, an Improv Show will also be available on June 6.
