Join Hands on May 2, but not literally
Join Hands Day is a holiday celebrated across the United States on the first Saturday of May. This year, that ends up being on May 2.
On Join Hands Day, younger people unite with older people by volunteering. It’s a great time for the younger generation to help the older generation and give back. It’s always a good thing to volunteer and help older people who have trouble doing certain things.
It’s more than just volunteering. It’s also the perfect time for older people to pass on their knowledge and life experiences to the younger generation. Imagine all the stories that they can offer and lessons they can teach. Older and younger people have always had disagreements on subjects that would often get in the way of understanding each other, but on Join Hands Day we can just put that behind us and live in unity.
The holiday was first celebrated in 2000 and founded by America’s Fraternal Benefit Societies. People volunteer by organizing and participating in food drives, clean ups and other charitable ways. Adults and children both get involved in these activities to help their communities. In recent years many groups have gotten together to organize these events and even give out awards in some cases.
