Disney opted to keep Mulan 2020 in theaters rather than livestream.

Because of the recent events related to COVID-19, all non-essential businesses are closed for the time being, and that includes theaters. Mulan 2020, a live-action version of the animated movie that was first shown in theaters on June 19, 1998, was not able to be shown in theaters. Its release date had already been postponed until March 27, 2020 but that day has come and gone with no opening.

While some movies are being streamed live for those who are stuck at home during the Shelter at Home order, Disney has come out with a statement saying that they are going to push back the release of Mulan until people can return to the theater. Some people are upset because they would like it to release on Disney+ instead, but it makes sense from a marketing standpoint for Disney to postpone the release. It wouldn’t really affect Disney if they waited a couple of months to finally release Mulan, and it would actually make them more money if they waited until this is all over to release all of their upcoming films in theaters.

Many movies are available from Disney on Disney+ and people around the world are enjoying them as they continue to wait for the much-anticipated Mulan 2020.
