For the love of the game
Brandon Newton has played football at Armijo, but when the school season ends, and before it begins, he has his off-campus team, the Dreamchasers, to keep him in shape. He’s also spent some time on the Armijo track team to keep him in running shape for football.
As a receiver on the Dreamchasers, Newton gets to enjoy games beyond the regular season. Although he has gotten badly injured from playing, he still has love for the game. “I’ve popped an elbow out of place, broken my thumb, and fractured an ankle, but that never stopped me from playing,” he said.
Football means a lot to Newton and the professional team that means the most to him is his favorite, the San Francisco 49ers. Although it was his brother who inspired him to start playing the sport, the football player that he looks up to the most is Deebo Samuels from the 49ers.
While he loves the sport, it can be challenging at times. That does not deter him. “Overall, I have love for the game,” said Newton. He hopes to be able to continue playing, perhaps at his first choice school, Illinois State University.
