Badminton players pair up for success
Taciana Bynum and Liana Wong play well together. This year they started playing as doubles players for the Armijo Badminton team, but more than that, they are best friends and great teammates. Bynum said, ”Liana is the main reason I know about the sport and joined.” Wong has played since her freshman year but Bynum didn’t join the team until she was a sophomore.
In addition to badminton, Wong also enjoys playing tennis. Her favorite part about playing with the badminton team, though, is being able to joke around and have fun bonding during the games and practices. Wong actually started playing badminton in elementary school and she would encourage those who are considering being part of a double’s team to “get to know your teammate really well and enjoy your time with the team.”
As a singles player, Bynum is currently ranked #3 but she hopes to reach #1 by the end of the season. Badminton interested her because she likes to be involved with sports and being active and this sport made those interests a reality. As doubles partners, Bynum and Wong have specific roles to play so it is important that they work well together. They check each other’s compatibility and, if it doesn’t work out, they try to understand why and correct to the problem. It always helps when your teammate is also your best friend.
