Far From Home:Straight outta Dubai

A pretty place to visit on a trip.

Dubai is the largest center for retail, entertainment, and agriculture. Without a doubt, there’s more Dubai has to offer, but those are the strengths of the Dubai economy over the past few years. Thanks to these top categories, Dubai’s luxurious lifestyle has attracted tourists with its awe-inspiring views.

Two of the most recent exports from Dubai, however, are Armijo students Nika and Brent Hinkle. Nika and Brent, who are currently a senior and freshman respectively, had the opportunity to experience living in Dubai before coming to live in Solano County.

Nika was able to share some interesting insights on the differences between life in Dubai and life in America. She mentioned that American education is the most expensive in Dubai, the second being the British system, which is one of the fairest systems of education in Dubai.

While living in Dubai, Nika and Brent enjoyed some cultural activities like sand skiing and camel riding. Sand skiing isn’t always safe for tourists, as it requires being still, as Nika explained. “Any slight imbalance could quickly make you fall off the sandboard,” she said. She also mentioned that a sandboard can be very expensive, so she and her brother only rented them.

Dubai wasn’t the Hinkles’ original home and seemed extravagant after their more humble upbringing. Nika said that she loved how welcoming the city is to tourists and newcomers. She said that this is especially evident as the people are polite and lighthearted.
