National Girls and Women in Sports Day
National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is celebrating its 34 th year on Wednesday, February 5. According to https://www.womenssportsfoundation.org/get-involved/ngwsd/, “This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power.”
The website goes on to explain that NGWSD is a time to celebrate and honor the achievements of women in all levels of sports, as they discover their potential.
NGWSD has been recognized annually since 1987 by the United States Congress. Each year it grows stronger in its goals, to spotlight the amazing accomplishments of girls and women in athletics.
NGWSD has partnered with Chevrolet, ESPN, Gatorade and more to bring awareness to the unique challenges focused on getting girls and women onto the field or the courts safely and eagerly. They have been assisted in this endeavor by such groups as Girls, Inc., the National Women’s Law Center and George Washington University. All girls and women are encouraged to take part in this celebration by getting involved in sports, for the day or for a lifetime.
