In This Class: Theater
Television shows and movies that feature high school students often portray theatre classes, but there is a difference between those shown on the screen, big or small, and those in real life.
Armijo High School is lucky enough to have a theatre class, led by teacher and Drama Club adviser Ms. Sheena Beeson. On a typical day, the class starts with warm-ups, led by whichever student is the warm up leader for the day. When the leader says, “Places for warmups!” everyone is expected to do what the leader says.
Her favorite part of the school day is seeing students who are really engaged or excited about something in her class. The class is also involved in student performances, improv nights and more. So far this year, there have been three class performances. The students work hard on memorizing lines, thinking quickly on their feet and preparing the stage for a variety of performances during and after school.
Ms. Beeson, has been working at Armijo for six years. If she couldn’t teach at Armijo she stated that she would teach at Benicia high school because that’s the school she went to and it’s closer to her home. If she weren’t teaching Theatre, she said that she would want to teach preschool students.
If she could be in charge of AHS for a day, Ms. Beeson said that she said she would have a silent disco.
