Diaz plays for the love of the game
Andres Diaz loves soccer. He loves it so much that he plays for the Armijo Varsity Boys’ Soccer team as well as the Napa Soccer Academy. “I’ve been playing soccer ever since I was seven years old,” said Diaz. His brothers are the reason he started playing soccer because he had seen them play and decided to try out. “At first it was hard for me because I didn’t like talking to other people so I didn’t fit in, but over time I got really used to it,” he said. He didn’t struggle
with the actual game like most beginners because his brothers had taught him how to play, so he only struggled with communicating with other players.
Diaz wants to be on the Armijo team until he graduates and on the Napa Soccer Academy team even after he graduates, but he doesn’t know what college he would like to attend or if they have a soccer team. “This is a sport I really encourage others to play because overall it’s fun and you learn a lot from it,” he said.
As for going professional, he knows that opportunities are rare, but he does look up to Lionel Messi who plays for FC Barcelona.
