Coach McGee keeps her eye on the ball
This is Coach Regina McGee’s first year coaching Girls’ Soccer at Armijo, but she has been playing soccer since she was around eight years old. She went on to play for her college team, and her passion for the sport is obvious.
Before she became a coach at Armijo, Coach McGee coached U teams and served as a volunteer coached at Vanden High School. She also coached at college camp. She originally started coaching because of her love for the sport, but also because she wanted to give back to the community and help other girls love it, too.
Although she has spent a lot of time focused on coaching, she said that she also loves to teach Special Education students. “Being with them brings you lots of joy, but other people can’t see it,” she said.
If there is something she would say to the girls who want to become a coach for any sport, she would tell them to “be yourself and know that coaching is getting to know the player and not change the person from what they already are.”
I grew up in Sacramento until I moved to Fairfield last year in October. I used to be in advanced classes, but now I have regular classes.
I love soccer...
