The 35th year of celebrating student thespians

Armijo’s theatrical group Fooling around at the Arty’s!

The Arty Awards is a ceremony designed to celebrate the students and adults of theater of the Solano/Napa counties. This year, on Sunday, October 6, PAN-Arts hosted the 35th Annual Arty Awards. The Awards are an event to unite the creative minds participating in community theater productions.

Our own school competed against schools throughout Solano County, including Fairfield and Rodriguez High Schools, Vacaville High School, Vanden High School, Benicia High School, and American Canyon High School. Armijo has been participating in the awards since before 2015 when theatre teacher (and improv coach) Ms. Sheena Beeson took over the program.

The awards are categorized into high school, adult, and youth theater. Within these categories are Comedy/Drama and Musicals. Within each of those are Sound, Lighting, Set, and Costume design; Supporting and Lead Actress and Actors; and Director.

This year, Armijo students won in three of the categories for the latest outstanding productions. For Fools!, a comedy that was performed November back in 2018. Kayla Aguarin won her Arty Award for Best Costume Design, Alex Padgett (Senior) won for Best Lead Actor.

A hearty congratulations to these students, as well as everyone else that was nominated! So, take a bow Armijo theater, you’ve earned it for the astounding productions you’ve taken part in!
