Off-campus athlete: Cakus up at bat
Christopher Cakus has been playing softball on club teams for seven years. “I’ve been playing since I was eight years old,” Cakus said as a club softball player, Cakus has gained a lot of experience and the next step is to add a position on the Armijo High School Varsity Softball team.
Cakus was very athletic as a child and played soccer for fun, but wanted to take something a little more seriously and softball seemed to be a natural part of the progression.
“My mom played softball as a child for years,” said Cakus. It also helped that Cakus’s friends are also part of the travel team and “that’s what makes it fun.” The benefits of playing softball include the fact that being on a club team keeps players in shape all year long and it gives them something to do. It can be a challenge, though, keeping up with the schedule. Sports like softball can take up a lot of time.
