Cheer focus: Energy and experience
Hannah Kildow has been a cheerleader for most of her high school life, starting in her freshman year, and has served as captain or co-captain since her sophomore year. She earned that title by working really hard and taking leadership opportunities when they came up. She also attended Cheer Camp at UC Davis during her sophomore year, which prepared her for the challenges that she would face as the team leader.
Kildow joined the cheer squad because she has always loved to dance and she wanted to get to meet new people and get involved with her school more.
She said that it can be difficult to be part of the cheer squad because the girls are often overlooked as athletes. Cheer is actually one of the most physically demanding sports, and stunting is the hardest part.
As co-captain of the squad, Kildow influences her team in many ways. She gives directions on where to be and what to wear, makes decisions regarding music and dance, and makes sure that her team is following instructions.
While all of this is important, cheerleading is not the only thing that Kildow loves to do. She said that she also likes to read and write, and she loves to watch football, baseball, and basketball.
